About

Hi there!

I’m Steffen Finsland. I’m a software developer from northern Norway. I’m currently living in Telemark with my wife and kids. Steffen's Portrait I enjoy building products, learning new things, carpentry, snowboarding, and playing in the snow.

After college, like most of us, I followed the expected path—landed a job, worked hard, and climbed the ladder. But after years of dedication, I found myself in my forties, feeling burnt out and questioning it all.

Working for a big corporation means spending a large portion of your week in endless meetings, stand-ups, scrum bullshit, transformation coach pipe dreams, and HR kumbaya sessions. It’s exhausting, and it’s no wonder many of us are feeling burnt out. According to studies, developers are interrupted 31.6 times a day on average, further draining our energy and focus.

Reflecting on this, I realized that all of it starts much earlier. From childhood to adulthood, we’re taught to follow instructions, driven by rewards and punishments, with little emphasis on independent thinking or the ability to make autonomous decisions. It’s no surprise that we find ourselves questioning the value of our work and the meaning behind our daily grind.

Life is more than doing what you’re told. Living on your own terms could unlock more fulfillment and productivity than you could imagine. I’m exploring entrepreneurship as a way to develop self-discipline, critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to set and follow personal goals without needing permission from others.

As a software developer and creator, I also enjoy sharing insights on programming, building products, and the technical challenges of being on your own. Whether you’re interested in the personal evolution of entrepreneurship or looking for practical advice on coding and making apps, you’ll find it here.

If this sparks something in you, let’s discover what’s possible together. Sign up for my newsletter to stay connected, or reach out on Twitter/X or via email. Let’s explore what living on your own terms really means.
